“Back to nature - back to me” stands for a mindful approach to nature and the resources of our region. In the Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region, we are exploring how energy and resources can be utilised in day-to-day operations and how consumption can be reduced. This has been enshrined, for example, in our Nature Guideline.
The Hohe Tauern National Park, with its protected habitats and its unique natural and cultural landscape, has a significant impact on the region. The preservation of these natural assets provides an important framework for the long-term development of tourism in the holiday region.
The Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region has been awarded the prestigious Austrian Ecolabel for tourism destinations. This means that one of the most impressive natural and cultural landscapes in the Alpine region has received official recognition for its consistent commitment to sustainability, environmental protection and climate action, and is now one of the certified destinations in Austria.
The award does not automatically apply to individual accommodation options, events, products and package deals.

The Hohe Tauern National Park
The Hohe Tauern National Park, covering a total area of 1,856 km², is the largest protected, contiguous and transnational natural and cultural area in the Alps.
The interaction between the core zone and the surrounding outer zone creates an extraordinary fusion of this unique natural environment with a cultural landscape of outstanding aesthetic beauty.
Holiday-packages and accommodation
‘Relax Hiking - getting there by train and ‘Relax Biking - take the train to the Hohe Tauern Bike Trail are Holidays-packages with scheduled arrival and departure by train and coordinated local transfers.
Accommodations in the Hohe Tauern National Park Holiday Region that hold the Austrian Ecolabel are distinguished by their efforts to promote environmentally friendly practices and establish sustainable standards in their operations.
National Park Worlds and National Park Shop
At the National Park Worlds, the focus is on sustainability. Thanks to the solar panel system, a part of the building’s energy is generated on site.
Therange at the on-site National Park Shop includes, amongst other things, regional products such as honey from Krimml, chocolate from Mittersill, soaps from Wald im Pinzgau and pasta from Rauris. As for clothing, there is a partnership with Toferer from Eben im Pongau, who have been awarded the GOTS certificate – Globally recognised standard for organic textiles.
Living traditions and regional customs
Events such as the cattle drive down from the alpine pastures, farmers’ autumn festivals and village markets are an integral part of the year and bring locals and visitors together. At the same time, traditional crafts and regional knowledge are still practised today and passed down from generation to generation. In this way, culture, tradition and regional identity are preserved for the future.

Development in our region requires a solid information base. The RESY Dashboard (Regional Information and Monitoring System) supports us in this effort by providing access to key indicators in the areas of the economy, tourism, the environment, energy, and mobility.
This allows us to visualize developments in the Hohe Tauern National Park vacation region, track trends, and develop joint strategies for the future. In total, the dashboard offers 30 indicators across five thematic areas—ranging from individual municipalities to the entire region.
