to the Salzburg National Park Authority
The Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest National Park in the Alps and stretches across the federal states of Salzburg, Tyrol and Carinthia. Each federal state has its own National Park authority. Here you will find contact details and information about the Salzburg National Park Authority (in German language: Salzburger Nationalparkverwaltung). The Hohe Tauern National Park Authority in Salzburg and the Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region (in German language: Ferienregion Nationalpark Hohe Tauern GmbH) work closely together, but are two legally and organisationally separate bodies.
The National Park Authority is part of the Salzburg Provincial Government – specifically Unit 5/07 within the Department of Nature Conservation and Environmental Protection. It is responsible for the core tasks of the National Park: protected area management, enforcement of the Salzburg National Park Act, natural landscape management, science and research, education, visitor information, cultural landscape, as well as funding and projects. The administration’s staff also carry out these tasks on behalf of the Salzburg National Park Fund.
In their day-to-day work, the two organisations complement one another: the National Park Authority is primarily responsible for the National Park as a protected area and for its specialist content; the Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region is primarily responsible for the National Park region as a tourist destination. For example, the National Park provides nature, educational and adventure activities – or rather, the specialist basis for them – whilst the holiday region integrates such activities into the region’s tourism marketing and product development.
The connection is also very close in geographical terms: the National Park Authority, the holiday region and the National Park Centre are all located at Gerlosstraße 18 in Mittersill.
