Hohe Tauern National Park holiday Region

"What we do today decides what the world will look like tomorrow."
Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach

“Back to nature - back to me”

“Back to nature - back to me” for us means responsible use of our nature, resources and energy. Climate and environmental protection is not just a buzzword in the Hohe Tauern National Park vacation region; we have been consciously investing in sustainable and resource-conserving management and lifestyles for a long time, and the Hohe Tauern National Park, as the largest natural reserve in the country, is the basis for the responsible development of tourism.

Since 2001 the Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region has been paying particular attention to sustainability, and it is now one of the most treasured tourist destinations in Austria. It is a true natural paradise with crystal-clear glacial streams and historic trade routes, ibexes and marmots, emeralds and thousand-year-old Swiss stone pines. In recent years, many projects and initiatives have already been implemented to promote sustainable tourism development. For example, the Nationalpark Sommercard also includes public transport.

Then there is the Green Spirit package on the Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail, which markets initiatives for a car-free holiday. The National Park Rangers, the ambassadors of the region, host informative adventure tours for National Park guests and visitors.

The accommodations with the Austrian Ecolabel in the holiday region National Park Hohe Tauern stand out for their efforts to promote environmentally friendly practices and establish sustainable standards in their operations.

The magazine „Hohe Tauern Blicke“, is printed Cradle to Cradle Certified® at the Bronze level. Cradle to Cradle Certified is the global standard for products that are safe, circular and responsibly made. Leading brands, retailers, designers and manufacturers across the value chain rely on the Cradle to Cradle Certified Product Standard to ensure the impact of their products on people and planet is a positive one.

Nature Guideline

Barrier-free in the Hohe Tauern National Park

Accessibility means that all people - regardless of physical limitations - can use their surroundings independently, safely and without outside help. Our offers for a barrier-free experience in the National Park show how the Hohe Tauern National Park also implements this claim in alpine terrain.

Barrier-free information centers and selected nature trails offer access that is suitable for as many people as possible. Wider paths, gentle inclines, tactile orientation aids and wheelchair-accessible facilities enable a direct experience of nature - even for people with limited mobility.

Tip: In addition, a sustainability and accessibility check provides valuable information on the accessibility of individual facilities and sustainable offers in the region.

Daten & Fakten
