Paragliding

Experience the national park from a bird's eye view

The Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region is an attractive destination for paragliders because of its impressive natural landscape and good thermals. The Pinzgauer Grasberge are particularly popular starting points.

In order to avoid disturbing the wildlife we ask all paragliders to observe the following points:

  • Take-offs and landings may only take place outside the core and outer zone of the national park, as required by law (except in emergency situations).
  • Flying in special protection areas (e.g. wilderness area Sulzbachtäler) is generally prohibited according to the respective regulations.
  • Flight taboo zones such as special protection areas, nests of golden eagles, bearded vultures and other birds protected under the Birds Directive, as well as roosts for griffon vultures and temporary research areas are shown on the seasonally updated map below.
  • Eagle and bearded vulture nests and other birds protected under the Birds Directive, as well as griffon vulture nesting sites, may not be flown over within a radius of 1 km.
  • Surprising appearances behind ridges are to be avoided.
  • Wild animals and packs of wild animals as well as mountain hikers and climbers may not be flown over.
  • The entire Hohe Tauern National Park is generally only flown in the period from April to 30 September from 9:00 am until sunset.

The aviation sports clubs ask their members and guests to take these regulations into account.
