Live naturally pain free

Local remedies for prevention and rehabilitation

For health seekers, a special treasure lies hidden beneath the earth's surface in the Hohe Tauern National Park Holiday Region. In Bad Gastein, 5 million liters of hot radon-containing thermal water bubble up daily from the depths of the mountains.

People came and still come from far and wide to experience long-lasting relief from their ailments thanks to the thermal water. Especially people with chronic diseases of the musculoskeletal system, respiratory tract and skin benefit from the healing effect of radon therapy.

The therapy and its remedies

Long-lasting freedom from pain, savings on medication and stabilization of the immune system are the achievable successes of the Gastein therapy. In addition to the thermal water, today's remedies also include the steam bath and the healing gallery. The most effective component is the noble gas, radon. With a daily flow of five million liters, the thermal water emerges from 18 springs at the foot of the Graukogel at a temperature of 46° and feeds the Felsentherme in Bad Gastein. It performs a therapeutic function in radon-thermal water baths or underwater therapies in the numerous on-site therapy centers. The haze of the thermal water also promises a healing effect. The radon thermal haze bath is located above Bad Gastein's most productive thermal spring, the Elisabeth Spring.

The Felsentherme - source of well-being

The Felsentherme is located at 1,100 m above sea level in the middle of the urban town of Bad Gastein. As the highest thermal spa in Salzburg, it offers absolute peace and relaxation, breathtaking views of the Hohe Tauern mountains, fresh thermal water every day and plenty of clean air to breathe in and out.

In 1968 the Felsentherme was opened as the first public thermal spa according to the plans of the famous architect Gerhard Garstenauer. Carved directly into the rock, it is considered an architectural highlight and an insider tip among thermal spa fans. The pools of the spa are fed daily with more than one million liters of healing Gastein thermal water, which means that chemical additives are hardly necessary.

Pain relief in the healing gallery

The Radhausberg is located at the southern end of Bad Gastein. Where gold was once mined, patients today find relief from their pain. Two kilometers inside the mountain there is a pleasant warmth of 37 to 41.5 degrees and humidity between 70 and 100 percent. In addition, natural radiation containing radon can be detected there. This combination of radon, heat and humidity has a scientifically proven anti-inflammatory and stimulates immune cells.

Especially for the treatment of Bekhterev's disease, an inflammatory rheumatic disease, the Gastein Heilstollen is known far beyond the borders of our country as the world's largest therapy center. In 2018, the Heilstollen celebrated its 3.5 millionth entry.

More than a therapy

In addition to sporting activities, Bad Gastein has always been considered a meeting place for art and culture. This tradition continues today with modern festivals and atmospheric concerts.
