The glaciers of the Hohe Tauern are among the biggest freshwater reservoirs in the Alps, important water suppliers for the river networks, affect the climate and have significantly shaped the landscape since the last ice age.
Glacier trails lead directly into the world of ice – moraines, glacial polishes, glacial mills convey an impression of the enormous power of ice.
For older students, this excursion also provides an opportunity for looking into the effects of climate change.
