Emerald Trail Bramberg
Habachtal valley, thanks to its long history of mining and being the only place in the Alps where emeralds are found, is now known worldwide. That's also why myths and legends abound about the valley. The pristine nature and traditional cultural landscape of the alpine pastures with their typical use of land and meadows, give visitors an appropriate picture of the Hohe Tauern National Park. This valley so characteristic to the Hohe Tauern National Park, has been made accessible to guests and locals by means of a themed hiking trail. With the Emerald Trail, the full adventure and recreational potential of Habachtal National Park is utilised without harming nature, visitors provided with natural and cultural history knowledge and "soft" visitor channelling achieved in the process.
Emeralds are a recurring theme throughout Bramberg community where it has strong roots. The project has been discussed on a broad basis and enjoys a high degree of approval by landowners and residents. The target group are families with children, seniors, mineral collectors and geologists as well as schools and mountain hikers. Together with the newly established national park exhibition Emeralds and Crystals, it is hoped that visitors’ awareness of the uniqueness of nature is raised.
