Management

The management of the national park is made up of many members who take on different roles.

From an organisational point of view, the national park council (made up of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management and representatives of the states of Salzburg Carinthia and Tyrol) head the organigram for the Hohe Tauern National Park.

The Hohe Tauern Salzburg National Park has six "operating areas". These indicate the main tasks of the national park management:

  • Natural environment management
  • Science & Research
  • Education & Visitor information
  • Preservation of the cultural landscape
  • Regional development
  • Tourism

Every individually represented state has its own national park administration. The administration for the Salzburg section of the national park is located in Mittersill. It consists of the "Department of National Parks salzburg State" and the "Salzburg National Park Fund". This is made up of a board of trustees and an advisory committee. The board of trustees has 5 members (conservation experts, land owners, representatives of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management and mayor), who each act for different interests.

A representative of the Salzburg National Park Fund also has a seat on the Holiday Region limited company. This then posts an additional representative to the National Park Centre Ltd.

An additional representative of the Salzburg National Park Fund is also posted to the LEADER+ LAG Nationalpark Hohe Tauern, in the Feld SNPF Fonds.
