Management of the National Park

From an organizational point of view, the National Park Council (composed of the Ministry of Life and representatives of the provinces of Salzburg, Carinthia and Tyrol) is at the top of the Hohe Tauern National Park.

The Hohe Tauern National Park Salzburg has six "business areas". These characterize the main tasks of the national park administration:

  • Natural Area Management
  • Science & Research
  • Education & Visitor Information
  • Preservation of the cultural landscape
  • Regional development
  • Tourism

Every single represented province has a national park administration. The administration for Salzburg's share of the national park is located in Mittersill. This consists of the "Referat Nationalparke Land Salzburg" and the "Salzburger Nationalparkfonds". The latter is composed of a board of trustees and an advisory board.  The board of trustees consists of 5 members (nature conservation experts, landowners, representatives of the Ministry of Life and mayors), each representing different interests. A representative of the Salzburg National Park Fund has a seat on the board of the Ferienregion GmbH. This then sends another representative to the National Park Center GmbH. Another representative of the Salzburg National Park Fund is sent to the LEADER+ LAG Hohe Tauern National Park, to the SNPF Fund field.
