Biken at Hohe Tauern National Park Holiday Region

Tauern bikeway

From the waterfall downstream to town and back

The Tauern bikeway is among the most scenic bike trails in Europe and is gaining in popularity. Starting point for the 270 kilometre long transnational cycling circuit is the municipality of Krimml. From there it's downstream along the SalzachRiver past Kaprun, Schwarzach, Bischofshofen and Golling to Salzburg. The way back goes upstream via BavarianBad Reichenhall to Lofer and Saalfelden all the way to Zell am See.

For those who want to take it easy, the route to Krimml can be covered by public transport. Current information on bicycle transport from Zell am See to Krimml can be found here >>

More than 90 percent of the route leads along cycle paths and side roads with little traffic. Numerous attractions and natural monuments are also located along the route, as are 50 cyclist-friendly businesses who cater to cyclists and provide luggage transport among other services. A further Tauern bikeway variant leads over 310 kilometres from Krimml all the way to Passau.
