Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region in Salzburger Land

With 266 three-thousand-metre peaks and 342 glaciers, there is plenty of nature to explore around the 18 towns and villages and 13 valleys of the Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region. The largest nature reserve in Central Europe invites you to discover its treasures and secrets on beautiful hikes and to experience great adventures.

The mighty 3,798-metre high Großglockner - Austria's highest mountain - protectively flanks the Hohe Tauern National Park. The cool glacier wind blows from the Schmiedingerkees to Salzburg's highest viewing platform, the Krimml Waterfalls, the largest waterfalls in Europe, plunge hundreds of metres into the depths and the National Park Worlds exhibition presents visitors with ten different themes.

Wherever you cast your gaze as you hike through the Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region you will be delighted by the beauty of its scenery. The Hohe Tauern are also a real treasure trove from a historical perspective: They are an ancient Celtic settlement area; the mule tracks bear witness to the arduous trade across the Alps and for centuries miners dug for emeralds, gold and silver here.

There are many interactive visitor and educational facilities such as themed trails and exhibitions teaching you all about the special ecological, socio-cultural and economic features of the Hohe Tauern National Park, as well as a wide range of tours with national park rangers.
