Marmots & Co.

Experience the alpine flora and fauna at close quarters

In the central area there is a large model of a typical landscape at an altitude of about 2,000 to 2,200m. Marmots cavort in the alpine grassland, ptarmigan in the snowy landscape, chamois and ibex climb the steep rock.

You can visit the sleeping marmots in the warren of earth.
More than half a year of hibernation - Hibernating close together is not always enough when it is very cold in winter. Particularly strong marmots with sufficient fat reserves then begin metabolic activity again and "heat up" the entire burrow.

However, not only the obvious marmots, but also some other animals, plants or plant communities can be found in the heights of the Hohe Tauern National Park. You can experience this in our marmot cinema.

Behind every plant in the Hohe Tauern National Park is a chequered story: where it comes from, how it maintains its place and what survival strategies it employs in the face of environmental influences.
