Biking in a natural environment

Tips & hints for unforgettable bike tours

The region offers a variety of routes ranging from breathtaking landscapes to challenging climbs. An absolute highlight is the Grossglockner High Alpine Road.

On the 12.9-kilometre Glocknerkönig route, 1,283 metres of altitude are climbed from the Ferleiten toll station to the Fuscher Törl at 2,428 metres above sea level. Enjoy the breathtaking view of Austria's highest mountain and the surrounding three-thousand-metre peaks. You can find out more about all four cycling stages on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road here

Here you will find important tips for your next bike tour. The most important advice: Get additional information from your landlord, national park ranger, staff in the tourist offices and bike guides on site.

Careful planning

You should find out in advance about the difficulty of the routes and your own ability. It is also advisable to check the weather forecast. It is also useful to let someone know about the planned route and the expected duration of the tour. This way, help can be provided more quickly in an emergency.

The equipment

Breathable and weatherproof clothing and a bike helmet are essential. (Sunglasses) protect against dust and insects. Cycling gloves provide grip and protection from injury in the event of a fall. It is equally important to take enough water and food with you to be adequately supplied during the tour. A GPS device and a map facilitate orientation on the route.

Taking care of each other

Stay on the marked bike paths. In addition, no litter should be left in the nature area (including cigarette butts) and no plants should be picked or (wild) animals fed. Make sure that open fires are only lit at the specially marked fire and barbecue sites. Avoiding unnecessary noise also helps to protect nature.
